The powder room was even more in need of help. Someone had added a large, dark, antique furniture piece. Now, I generally think it's cool when furniture is used in bathrooms to house the sink. It can be really creative and original. But in this case, it was much too heavy and not the right style for the house at all.
We wanted it the small room to have clean, modern lines, but also wanted to add something that would make it really original and special. Here's what we came up with:
We found a gorgeous tile at Heath Ceramics on Beverly Blvd. Their handmade tiles are some of the most beautiful I've ever seen. We decided to cover one entire wall with them and to leave the rest of the room a soft white. I think it's just beyond lovely. I mean, look at the difference:
We used a natural wood grain for the custom vanity, added some soft, charcoal Jonathan Adler sconces, and had a narrow, beveled, rectangular mirror made that wouldn't cover too much of the beautiful tile.
We also chose natural stone floor tiles in a light charcoal to complete the look. It all just feels like it was meant to go together. Is it healthy that a powder room in someone else's house can make me so happy?! Whatever it takes, I guess!
